For this week’s #tooltalktuesday I wanted to show off an option for achieving a satin finish on your polishing lathe - Technique Bufflex Satin Wheels! I received these wheels from @ottofrei1930 and they have three different options: TF (Very Fine - Part # 117.880), F (Fine - Part # 117.881), and M (Medium - Part # 117.882). They are made of compressed, non-woven Aluminum oxide and are used for deburring and deoxidizing on a wide range of metals including gold, silver, platinum, palladium, brass, copper, titanium, pewter, tin, steel, iron and aluminum. When I compared all three, I found the biggest difference was between the Medium (more scratchy) and the Very Fine (the finest finish of the three). I prefer the Very Fine but this is just my personal preference for a less scratchy finish! You can apply your matte finish with these quickly, but I’d say they would be challenging to use on very small objects. I’ve had great success with earrings, rings, pendants and bangles! They are meant to be used at a slower speed, between 1400-2800 rpm. This will give you the best results and also increase the longevity of your wheel. They retail for $24.95 and you can save 5% off your order (and help support the page by supporting our sponsor :) with code MMS719 #sponsored #metalsmithsociety #jewelrytools
