For this week’s #tooltalktuesday I wanted to discuss PAINTER’S TAPE, it’s an inexpensive tool to keep in your studio that you will find countless uses for. I thought it would be fun to compile all the amazing tips we have shared that used painter’s tape since the beginning of the page. The first was using it to cover your stone while polishing your bezel, this extra step has saved me many a time from an accidental slip that could have damaged a stone! That tip was shared by @fione_harvey. The next came from @seaneckel.jewelry who used painter’s tape to hold his bezel together to cut a nice clean seam. You can also use the tip from @smith_tips to tape your silver balls to your steel block before hammering them flat to prevent them from flying all over the place. I use painter’s tape on the bottom side of my larger pieces of silver sheet to keep them from getting scuffed while I saw but you can also just store them with tape on the top and bottom for the same reason. Keeps them pristine! I love the tip from @mothersonthemountainjewelry who uses the tape to hold down pieces she needs to drill. Lastly we had @makestuffwithyourhands share how they cover a side of their file with tape to create a “safe” side while filing. If you have another awesome use for painter’s tape please send me photos or video of your tip! I would absolutely love to share! Thank you to all the people who contributed these wonderful tips. I use many of them on a regular basis! #metalsmithsociety #jewelrytips #painterstape #jewelrymakingtips
