Here is a tip to safely UNSET heirloom stones from @izzyizzy_ - “I find myself needing to safely unset heirloom stones a lot, and after trying various techniques with sawblades, gravers, cutters etc. I found that a gray pre-polishing wheel (sold at Otto and elsewhere) is a great method to quickly and safely take down prongs and bezels and remove stones without damage. You can pumice directly on most of the harder precious stones without worrying about chipping them or ruining the polish. It even works for pavé (I use the knife edge wheel for hard to reach places and pavé. Beware of flying stones as they come loose!) These are the wheels I use from @ottofrei1930

https://www.ottofrei.com/Italian-Grey-Pre-Polish-Knife-Edge (I am OBSESSED with these knife edge ones for shaping prongs and removing stones) I avoid directly touching softer stones, but with a little care I have used them around opals etc. Tape or blue tack on the stone to protect it is probably a good measure for a softer stone. I grind them all over harder stones with no issues 😆” Thank you SO much for sharing this tip and awesome video with us! I will link her recommended wheels in a story and in my “TOOLS” story highlights! #jewelryrepair #stonesetter #removingstonesfromjewelry #grsballvise
