For this week’s #tooltalktuesday I wanted to discuss a basic tool, owned by most jewelers: a prong pusher! Prong pushers are definitely on my list of beginner’s tools as they work really well to push down bezels. The problem is they come with some sharp edges that will mar your bezels so it is super helpful to modify them slightly. To do so I use my tools that are my go-to whenever I’m modifying: my EZE-Lap diamond cards to quickly sand the edges or you can use sandpaper (be sure not to cross-contaminate with your work! We’ve talked about this before because steel can get embedded into your silver when you sand on the same surfaces :) Then I polish it up with my Ceragloss wheel! Ceragloss wheels are an awesome way to apply a high polish onto the tool once I have a shape I like. It’s really that easy, these tools are AMAZING to add to your tool box because you can use them to shape stamps, use them to modify broken burs into flush setting tools. Taking the time to make your tool nice and smooth will save you from scratches and marks that take time to buff out 😁 an easy way to see my list of tools to get started making jewelry is to download my free beginner’s resources list!
