Here is a soldering tip from @madalaynas_fire - “To protect elements while soldering I’ve been using a product called Thermo Trap and it is working great! For this example I put a generous dollop of the paste onto the stainless steel chain I want to protect while I solder the clasp and hook. You can see how the paste "cooks" and gets crusty during the solder process. I then dunked the chains in water, and gave them a brush with a toothbrush. You can see the stainless steel chain is still shiny and unaffected by the heat and I only have to clean up the clasp and hook! As a newbie using a non-standard jeweler's torch (a propane bottle and over-sized tip) I absolutely love this stuff as it helps with controlling the heat damage to sensitive parts of my projects! It seems like you can find it online, e-bay, amazon, etc for a small cost (~15$ CAD) and the bottle will last a long time! Hope this helps some other metal smiths struggling with heat damage!” Madalayna also told me she has used this on a variety of metals. Like always make sure that you use a fume extractor and/or respirator while soldering and eye protection! #safetyfirst #solderingjewelry #heatprotectant
