If you like getting a matte or scratched finish on your work I created this photo tutorial on how to create your own @scotchbrite_3m mandrel for your flexshaft. The supplies you need are one Scotch-Brite general purpose scouring pad, one screw mandrel (I purchased mine from @riogrande) a circle template (helpful but you could also eyeball a circle) and scissors (those are necessary 😂) STEP 1️⃣ Using your template, draw your circles (you can use 1-2 circles on a single mandrel typically.) STEP 2️⃣ Cut them out using the sharpest scissors you have available. Aim to get them as perfect as possible. STEP 3️⃣ Mark the center and pierce with a scribe or other sharp implement. STEP 4️⃣ Thread your mandrel through and tighten with a screw driver. That’s it! Definitely experiment with the mandrel on some scrap metal to see the textures you can accomplish. If you end up trying this I’d love to see what you use it for!
