When you want to prevent solder from flowing into a design you’ve stamped, or prevent a previously soldered element from flowing use this tip from @knotandsplice (and thank you to other members of the community that have mentioned this stuff in comments 🙏🏻😘)-“Ronda Cornell’s masking mud from @Riogrande (the video shows how I brush it on, let it dry, then I solder as usual). I use a small brush to paint on an area where I don’t want solder to reflow (it works similarly to white-out except white-out is super toxic to breathe in when heated). This is a more natural, safer solution. It’s especially helpful on the backs of rings where the hallmark is super close to where the ring needs to be joined to the setting...the masking mud keeps the solder from flowing where you don’t want it to. Just be careful not to get any on the area you’re trying to solder because it won’t let the solder flow properly. :) this container will last anywhere from 6 months to 1 year or more depending on how much soldering one does...I use it on any piece with a lot of joints or close spaces where there’s no room for error. :) “ thank you so much for sharing this! I have been using white out occasionally and was definitely looking for a more natural product! #jewelrycommunity #metalsmithsociety #metalsmithsocietytips #benchjeweler #ladysmith #instasmithy
