Here is a tip for reducing fire scale/stain from @khdjewellery - “My tip for fire scale reduction is using a Boric acid and methylated spirit solution (a.k.a denatured alcohol). I have a plastic vitamin bottle on my bench and toss what I want to solder into it then fish them out and onto the honey comb block. The boric acid coats the silver in a thin coating when the methyl has evaporated. It helps flux run, I use techno flux, and helps prevent fire scale. It isn’t fool proof and looses effect if you over heat your metal. Once you have made the boric bath it keeps for a long time, I got 18 months out of my last one - just add more denatured alcohol as it evaporates!” Thank you so much for sharing this Kate, this is such an important step that really helps! Has fire scale been bothering you? Tell us about it! No judgement here, we’ve all been there 😂 #metalsmithsociety #jewelrytipoftheday #jewelrycommunity #soldering #solderingjewelry
