In this week’s Rolling Mill Mini Series post I wanted to show off how to use your mill for MARRIAGE OF METALS 💕 (this is a process of soldering contrasting metals together). In my first example I’ve taken three wires, twisted them, soldered them and rolled them through the part of the rollers that make square wire. Once I have a beautiful twisted square wire I can stop here and use that in my work or keep going to solder a few of them together and form a sheet. As you can see the sheet can then be used to form a ring band or any other number of projects. My other project is a “fake mokume gane” I solder together layers of brass, copper and silver (using hard solder) I then drill holes and use a ball bur to remove some of the top layers as I roll it through the mill. I annealed and rolled through many times until I had a flat sheet with some of the copper and brass showing through! The possibilities are endless! You can mix gold, silver, copper or brass. You do have to be careful if you plan to solder with your fake mokume gane - use medium or even easy solder so it doesn’t fall apart! 🙏🏻 If you are interested in purchasing a rolling mill @aajewelrysupply is offering us an awesome deal on this @pepetools_usa mill with code METALSMITH ($525 for this 130 combo mill or $495 for the 130 flat, shipping included) 💃🏼⚡️😁 #metalsmithsocietyminiseries
