If you need a tool to open a set bezel, here is a step by step guide to make your own from @williamcobbjewelry - βStart with a pair of hemostats (an inexpensive surgical tool) I first had to flatten the jaws by removing the teeth. Then blunted the ends. Then using an old pair jewellers pliers (you will mar the jaws of your good jewelry pliers by doing this, so use something else!) I shaped the top jaw to a pretty sharp point, and remember it has to be even to get an even grab and pull motion. If your top jaw is uneven it can mar or even tear a bezel. I then bend the lower jaw down. Then polish it up. Remember to look for hard edges on the jaws. The edges can leave a mark on your work.β Thank you so much for sharing this! I get questions about opening set bezels on a weekly basis. A tool like this may help in some cases when you want to salvage the piece and the stone!
