Here is a tip for utilizing a collet block to file a setting from @paulcoyne - “This tip is useful when making bezel settings. It can be tough to file the top of a bezel setting accurately, I use my bezel block as a filing guide place the setting in an opening that it protrudes slightly then file across the setting using a fine cut file. The block holds the setting firmly and stops you filing too much on any side as the file will slide on the hardened steel when it reaches the point that the setting becomes level with the block. Once you have the top level it is easy use a set of dividers to mark the base evenly on all four sides. Bezel blocks are normally used for shaping tube etc into tapered bezel settings, this is just a quick trick to speed up making and improve the precision of making a setting.” Thank you so much for sharing this with us! Collet blocks are such a huge time saver and I’d love to see more with them! 🙏 #metalsmithsociety #jewelrytipoftheday #colletblock #jewelrytools #howitsmade
