Here is a tip for utilizing your soldering pick and some other general soldering tips from @meritmade - “I get asked a lot about my soldering process. In this video, I’m soldering a small piece of sterling silver into a sterling silver ring to size it up. I’m using a mixture of boric acid and denatured alcohol to coat and protect the surface of the metal from firestain. It also works as a general flux for the seam. In addition, I also use my-t-flux (the bright yellow stuff) on the bits of hard solder to help them flow. The torch I have is a prestolite acetylene torch. I’ve had it forever, and it’s my go-to when I need a decent amount of broad heat. As you can see in the video I use my titanium solder pick to help spread the solder as it flows.” I love this so much, thank you for sharing with us. When I was starting out and I learned how to use my pick to drag solder or give it a little nudge it was a game changer for me. 🧡 Getting comfortable with soldering definitely takes time! #metalsmithsociety #soldering #solderingjewelry #jewelrymakingtips #tipoftheday
