@corkieboltonjewelry knows I use both my circular and oval disc cutters regularly. If you work with oval shapes and have been sawing them by hand, this tool will change your life. It comes with a urethane pad which you use underneath, and Pepelube which you use to lubricate prior to cutting (also great on saw blades). The ovals come in 30mm x 22mm,25mm x 18mm, 24mm x 14mm, 20mm x 15mm, 20mm x 12mm, 18mm x 13mm. I use my 2lb brass mallet, which is also amazing for stamping in general (works better for me than a rawhide mallet.) You will want to create shims in brass or copper in the same gauges as the metal you plan to create ovals in. So for example in my video I’m cutting 18g and I have a 18g copper shim opposite where I’m cutting. You want to be careful to not over tighten on your metal as it can cause lines. I also wanted to show off some of the other shapes I can achieve with my oval and circular disc cutters: washers, moon shapes and you can also get nice curves on a shape. The Pepetools™ Premium Disc-Cutting Kit comes with center positioning dies, they are perfect for creating washers -you cut a smaller hole first, then place that smaller hole in the larger circle, the center positioning die is placed inside that hole and centers it prior to stamping out the larger circle (which creates a washer.) My last thought on these cutters is that for me they actually allow me to make my one of a kind pieces more affordable because it drastically cuts down on my time at the bench, I get my shapes in a few seconds and I can spend my time doing cool inlay or setting stones but still create pieces with desirable price points!
