Here is a tip for securing your work while drilling from @timberlinemetalworks - “Here’s another use for a miter jig. Use the jig as a ‘vise’ to hold small pieces of wire while drilling. It’s an easy way to get accurate and repeatable results. Use a punch to mark the drill location to keep the bit from wandering. Lay the wire to be drilled face down on your bench. Place the jig down over the wire into the 90° opening. Orient the jig so that the spot to be drilled is between the 90° faces of the jig. Tighten. Turn the jig over and place it on your bench peg or drilling surface. Start with a small drill bit, 0.5mm or 0.7mm depending on the size of the finished hole. Prep the bit with wax, drill slowly, and rotate the jig a ¼ turn each little bit. This helps keep things aligned if you don’t hold the drill perfectly vertical. Use a ball bur with a light touch to ease the hole on each end.” Thank you so much for sharing this with us! 🙌 #metalsmithsociety #jewelrytipoftheday #miterjig
