Here is a solution for removing rust from tools from @cbgems - “
How to remove RUST from your precious tools! Find the perfect Antique tool but discovered RUST? Live near water and live in a humid area? It’s no secret that rust contaminates and spreads to other tools like a fungus! Here’s how to solve your RUST problems easily!
Step 1: Spread our rusted tools in a flat container. I use small plastic containers or in this case some drawers from a previously loved small storage/organizer.
Step 2: Pour Rust Removal Solution over the rusted tools! I used ‘Metal Rescue’ found at Home Depot for about $25 - there is also a good one at OSH called ‘Rust Off.’ Despite any preconceived notions - these solutions are biodegradable and can be washed down and rid of easily.
Step 3: In extreme cases you’ll need to scratch the rust a bit with a wire brush and repeat steps 1&2 - but usually this does the trick after soaking for 4-24hrs depending on level of rust - remove tools from solution and dry off thoroughly.
Step 4: Seal Tools. For tools like shot plates, pliers and saw frames I use Renaissance Wax from @riogrande to seal these tools a bit and prevent immediate rust return. For stamps I use a little WD40 to lube em up again (wipe a bit off) and they’re ready to go home in your desk! *Keeping tools in their respective drawers, cases or tool boxes should solve your Rust problems and keep them at bay! BUT if you live within 5mi of the beach and open your windows EVER.... you may see rust like I do! Thankfully this easy process renews the tools and keeps their resilience!” 🤯 Thank you so much for sharing this! I also found on Amazon for $25 and will link in my stories! #metalsmithsociety #jewelrystudio #jewelrytools #rustremoval
