Here is a tip for positioning work while you solder from @amypetersstudio - “I try to stay away from 3rd hands when possible. They pull heat away, they can concentrate heat on what it’s holding and most tweezers don’t last long and I hate throwing things away. .
I use solderite (tm) pads from Rio Grande as my soldering block. They can be carved into to hold items in place, pinned into, the top layer can be scraped off for a clean surface and when I’m switching to a new one, I break up old one. I use the pieces to position tiny parts, like in this photo where I’m attaching tiny flowers on the edge of a gemstone bezel. I do a very similar set up for soldering on jump rings or when making handmade chain.
.
When carving into or breaking up the block remember to use dust mask protection!” Love this idea! Thank you so much for sharing with us Amy! #solderingtip #solderingsmallparts #solderite
