Here is a tip to clean your files from @funlolacoker - “It's nothing revolutionary, but it doesn't require having file cleaning brush so it's one less tool to buy. Using a scrap piece of brass, scrape debris downward. Light pressure is usually sufficient, but if the file is really clogged, you may need to apply more. I use my files for different materials, including steel *gasp!* So I tend to clean them often. It only takes a few minutes and the results are worth it.” To continue to celebrate our community’s diversity and also #amplifymelanatedvoices I asked Funlola to share some of her work and what inspires her as a Black jeweler: "I started metalsmithing in 2007 during my freshman year of college, but I didn’t start making jewelry until 2011. Luckily I had the basics of working with metal so I could apply that to making jewelry. I made and sold miniature food jewelry for about 5 years, but I always knew I wanted to get back to metal. In 2018, I made the switch to enamel and fine jewelry and haven’t looked back. I’m inspired by bold colours and patterns in West African textiles, North African architecture and futuristic forms in science fiction. My favourite pieces to make are from my most recent Memphis collection. I get to play around with texture, bold shapes and fabrication." Thank you so much for taking the time to share a tip with us!
