#affiliate For this week’s #tooltalktuesday I wanted to talk about my Foredom Dust Collector! A quality dust collector is for sure an investment they typically range between $650-$1000 however I think they are an important tool. I plan to also talk about my Quatro Dust Collector at a future time but today I am focusing on the Foredom (both brands are fantastic in my opinion!) The thing I probably love most about this Foredom is the Fishmouth attachment. It’s compatible with my GRS mounting plate so I just quickly slide it on and off my bench. It’s got comfortable arm rests built in. The unit provides powerful suction, so as I am grinding, sanding or polishing on the bench pin there is less airborne particles. Does it collect every single bit .. probably not but it is substantially better than not using anything. A dust collector not only better protects your health (by minimizing particles you could be breathing in) but I know for sure I have been able to recoup more money at the refiner by using one. The other unique and awesome feature of the Foredom dust collector is the container that collects the big particles. The HEPA filter bag collects small particles while the clear canister which clips on and off in seconds collects big particles (and you can dump it right into your refining bucket ;) As you can see in the video I also use the hose to vacuum the deep crevices between the floor boards of my studio where tons of gold and silver dust have accidentally fallen over the years. It’s also pretty quiet! I featured this product on this year’s Holiday Guide (on my blog) which is sponsored by our friends Gesswein! They carry this awesome tool (item 854-2200 the 115v) and it’s attachments and you can use code MSS5 to save 5% and support the page. If you are in CANADA you can also receive the discount by using code: metalsmith. I get that this kind of a purchase is a big one so if you have any questions I’ll do my best to help out! Thank you for tuning in! #dustcollector #studiosafety #makingjewelry
