Here is a technique for making an open back bezel from @earnestlyobijewellery - “I bought some lovely dendritic agate slices but didn’t want the back to be covered – I loved the idea of light being able to shine through! First I created my bezel, then I made a ring from 1mm wire that fit right inside my bezel strip and I soldered it inside. I then filed away the gap between these two pieces (and then sanded the file marks out), attached a bail to the top, pushed the stone in, and filed down the excess bezel above the stone (as it wasn’t an equal height the whole way around). finally, i just set the bezel as normal!” Thank you for sharing this with us Abbey! This is a great technique! Not only does it showcase the back of the stone as you mentioned but it also keeps the material costs lower because there is less metal in the setting. This can also be a great solution for stones that are transparent as you don’t have to worry about your backplate getting tarnished! #bezelsetting #howtomakeabezel #openbackbezel #jewelrymakingtutorial
