#societychat Today is Episode 3 of my new series: SOCIETY CHAT. This biweekly video series will feature my 15 minute interviews with inspiring jewelers and teachers. Really excited to share my conversation with Angely Martinez of @angelymartinezjewelry and here is her tip/tool - "One of the best tricks I learned while taking a course @jewelryarts was to make silver links for chains using Argentium Silver. In this instance, I am doing a ring. Flux the seam, then heat the whole piece until the seam disappears. Once fused, and for extra security, you can put a tiny piece of solder on the fused seam. The coolest part is you don't have to flux again to solder. After soldering, let the piece cool off and clean it in water. You can proceed to clean and/or finish your link(s). Argentium does not get as much fire scale while fabricating, which means less pickle use. I most commonly use Argentium to make granules and continue experimenting with this metal. Every metal has its own personality so I suggest experimenting :). If you love making handmade chains in silver, you have a new productive way to do so." Thank you for your time Angely! I also shared a pic of a chasing hammer which Angley talked about in her interview as her fav tool under $100. Be sure to check out Angely’s work over at @angelymartinezjewelry and you can also go to https://bipocopenletter.com/ to read the BIPOC Open Letter and you can sign the letter as a member of the BIPOC Community, or as a supporter. Everyone head over to my other post today to listen to the interview. If you have any additional questions for her please comment below and you can also let me know who else you’d like me to interview! Next up I will share my interview with @scottjamesjewelry on 4/19/21 😃#metalsmithsocietychat
