Always lots of boric acid paste flux! Diamonds, sapphires, and rubies can handle the heat of the torch when using these methods, but working on jewelry with other stones requires a fancy laser welder.” Thanks for letting me share this! We get a ton of questions about making repairs when there are stones involved, you always have to proceed with caution and the “red, white and blue” (ruby, diamond, sapphire :) are typically the stones that can handle it. Thermopaste is also great for protecting clasps when soldering on a chain.
