#societychat Today is Episode 5 of SOCIETY CHAT. This biweekly video series features my 15 minute interviews with inspiring jewelers and teachers. Really excited to share my conversation with Laura Niblack of @thewildpine and here is her tip/tool - “I love incorporating a variety of prong settings in my work, so my current studio go-to has been a Kaiser Lee Board for soldering! I picked up this tip in a fantastic class with @joannagollberg & it has forever changed my solder game!! Kaiser Lee boards were originally created to serve as a kiln forming surface for glass and clay work, yet with their moldable qualities & extreme resistance to heat, they have TONS of benefits for metalsmithing! The boards come in 1x12x12 inches. I simply slice them in half or quarters to accommodate whatever project I am working on. I primarily use these to hold prongs in place to protect them whilst soldering. I too occasionally carve into & shape them to serve a myriad of other soldering jobs & projects. They’re incredibly versatile!” Thank you Laura, I recently used this tip of hers for a tutorial on the page, these boards are amazing, kaiserlee.com :) Head over to her episode of Society Chat, it was an amazing conversation and give her a follow if you aren’t already, she is incredible! #thewildpine #jewelerssupportingjewelers #jewelrymakingcommunity
