Here is a setting tip from @marquisjewelryacademy - “When I'm setting a station necklace like this on a rotating vise (GRS Multi-purpose) the chain can get caught up below. I use a spare baggie to hold the chain clear of my Thermoloc ( @grstools ) and the Vise mechanics. The little bit of warm Thermoloc bonds well with the plastic bag, without melting. Thermoplastics are a great setting choice for awkward shapes, or heavy bezel settings with a chasing hammer and a punch. They are moldable with a heat gun (my preference) or a microwave or hot water, when they cool to room temperature, they become very hard and hold things securely.” Love this idea to protect chain, also a huge fan of the GRS vise for holding my work while setting! Thank you for sharing with us Emily. I’d love to see how you hold your work while you set, please email me pictures: tips@metalsmithsociety.com . No method is too simple, we have so many beginners that don’t have access to some of the more expensive tools so showing simple methods is always hugely beneficial :) #settingstones #goldnecklace #thermoloc #grsvise #settingtips #jewelrymakingtips
