For this week’s #tooltalktuesday I wanted to talk about my Durston Bench Vise ( Part # 158.072) from our friends at @ottofrei1940 I need to add a bench vise to my list of *essential* tools because they are so incredibly useful. Before I got my hands on this Durston vise I used to borrow my old studiomate’s vise (thanks Islay!) Here are just some uses of a bench vise when they are properly (securely) mounted: Hold a ring mandrel, forming stake or bezel mandrel to hammer or texture your work. Hold the end of two wires to manually twist. Holding a flat piece of metal that has been scored and using it to help bend. I LOVE a vise like this as a place to heat thermoloc and hold your work for setting. The vise can be loosened, rotated and tightened again as you set a bezel. These are just some of the uses off the top of my head. I would love to hear how you use yours, and whether you have it mounted to a stump or a tabletop! Let us know! You can purchase this awesome vise and save 5% and each purchase also helps support Metalsmith Society with code MMSXF from Otto Frei (theirs are silver in color :) If you are international you can purchase directly from Durston and save 20% (head to the link in my profile) they have an even larger vise and also a clamp on version! Huge thank you to them as well for their support! #affiliate #heavydutyvise #largevise #jewelersvise #holdingamandrel #thermoloc #settingabezel
