Here is a #diy tool modification that can help you set prongs from @smithyandthecat - “With the simple modification of a small pair of channel-lock pliers from the hardware store, you can make setting pliers that give you much better control when setting cabs (and some faceted stones) with prongs. They allow you to apply the perfect amount of pressure on the prongs, thus minimizing the risk of breaking or scratching softer stones. Watch the video to see how to shape the top jaw to be concave (a shallow dished shape) and the bottom jaw to be flat and smooth. Then the pliers can be adjusted for the depth of your stone.” Thank you Leslie for taking the time to share with us. I absolutely love tool modifications! If anyone else has one they would like to share (nothing is too simple :) email me pictures and ideally video at tips@metalsmithsociety.com thank you, you all keep the page going! #toolmodification #settingtools #settingprongs #pushingdownaprong
