Here is a tip for making ring shanks from @dcadefdesigns - “Remember making paper snowflakes?? You can use the same concept to make funky ring bands!
Quick little vid on what I do to make the wavy gravy saddle rings. Or you can cut all sorts of shapes, play with negative space or cut outs.
Take tracing paper or copy paper and fold it once horizontally.
Turn the paper 90º and fold perpendicular to the first fold. You want to fold about 1-2" from the edge. That way after you've cut your template, you can then refold further down the paper for more templates!
Start from the edge and cut away from the folds (corner) in any shape you want. You're cutting 1/4 of the shank shape.
Unfold and there you go! A paper snowflake/ring shank! You can refine it however you want by folding and cutting more.
If you make a shape you really like, trace it onto card stock or something more ridgeded, like a plastic placemat (thank you @psartisanjewelry for that tip!)
For the ring size, you can measure how long you need your shank and cut accordingly.
Have fun!” So generous to share this with us Danielle, thank you so much! Comment below if you are going to give this one a try and be sure to tag Danielle and I! #ringshanks #silversmithing #makingsilverrings #fabrication #fabricationtips
