Ever get confused by gauges when ordering metal? For those new to jewelry making it can be a bit confusing! We all were beginners learning this stuff at one point or another ☺️ this visual is one I created a few years back to show different gauges of round wire as rings. It illustrates the higher the number the thinner the metal is. So 30g would be incredibly thin and 2g would be very thick. I often get the question “what gauge should I use for rings?” This is subjective because some people like to work with more delicate rings and others prefer a thicker band. I personally like 12g for round wire rings because they hold their form and feel comfortable to wear. For metric system: 18g is 1,02mm, 16g is 1.32mm, 14g is 1.63mm and 2.06mm I did a second post and added that visual! What do you use? Do you have more questions about gauge? There are no stupid questions here ☺️ also head to the blog at METALSMITHSOCIETY.com and search for “Guide Go Ordering Metal” for more info! #metalgauge #makingjewelry #orderingmetal
