Depletion Gilding, a process I use on Sterling Silver to heat and raise copper oxides and then remove them with pickle. This leaves a very fine layer of fine silver on top. You might need to heat and pickle 4-6 times until to heat and the metal doesn’t get darker. In this video mine don’t get very dark as I had already done a previous heating but it’s meant to give you the idea! Be careful not to overheat your metal to a red color. My plan with these earrings is to enamel them so I want to have the fine silver on top. I used @pepetools_usa Smart Pickle which is sodium bisulfate and will remove the copper oxides. I haven’t tried it with alternative pickles like white vinegar but if someone has let us know in the comments. The brash brush is helpful but not 100% necessary! Castings are by @haroldstudio hope this is helpful! #depletiongilding #sterlingsilver #jewelrytips
