#tooltalktuesday I’m excited to share my
@pepetools_usa 4” guillotine shear! If you are unfamiliar with shears they slice through sheet metal in seconds, giving you a nice straight edge and saving you the time it would take to saw by hand. This one is made in America and can fit 4” sheet. The ideal gauge to cut is 20g or thinner. You do need to mount this baby down so that it is nice and stable while cutting! Here are some ways in which I’ve used mine. 1️⃣ Quickly cutting rectangles and squares that will be the baseplate for a bezel. I always find it awkward working with a massive piece of sheet when sawing out a baseplate on my bench pin. 2️⃣ Super helpful when I’m using my disc cutter (also made by Pepe 😉) and I need to cut off the scraps so I can insert my sheet and cut more circles, normally I’d have to saw it off so the shear definitely saves me time. 3️⃣ Cutting angles! This guillotine features a miter table. To cut your sheet on an angle simply loosen the two wing nuts on the guide bar and line it up with the 15°, 30°, or 45° and retighten. Once you are cutting angles you are limited to a smaller pieces but it’s great if you want to make a border, or box corners. 4️⃣ Marriage of metals! I made the checkerboard pattern with brass and copper by soldering rows I cut with the shear and then cutting them again. It would be WAY too labor intensive to cut and file by hand (for me at least) so the shear allows me to experiment! 5️⃣ Cutting bezels from 28-30G sheet. If I’m creating a stepped bezel or if I want to cut a custom height bezel with minimal waste, using the shear is awesome. Lastly I’ll share a tip I picked up on the
@pepetools_usa product page for the shear, I placed a small magnet on the side to store the small wrench that tightens the handle and the adjustable measurement gauge. That way I always have it right there when I need it
