Here is a #diy leather catch-all from @loupeandpeg - “Measure your semicircle/points from which you will hang the catcher and get a skin that is at least 2.5x the surface area. Here are my measurements:
Semicircle 30x55cm
Leather 57x75cm. I used goat’s skin. It’s more lightweight than cow hide, more durable than nappa and prettier than pig’s skin. You want 4x eye screws and 4x mini key rings. This is the bit where you just have to trust in the process and go with it...Drill holes on the underside of your bench and attach the eye screws. Poke very small holes into your leather about 1.5cm from the edge, or at a spot where the skin feels strong(er).
Use the curved end of the skin at the front of your semicircle, as it’s natural convex shape will help catch more metal and protect your clothes. The last step is to hang the front two rings (first) and then adjust the back two to give you the dip.
You may have to cut the skin, so I used some strings at the beginning while I was adjusting the height and swapped them for the rings right at the end!” Thank you so much for sharing this!!
