For this #tooltalktuesday I wanted to show off the Lortone Rock Tumbling Abrasive and Polishing Kit which was included with my Lortone Tumbler from @seattlefindings the set includes four compounds which you mix with water and tumbling time is between 3-7 days per compound. I had never done this before so this is by no means a review, I just wanted to show off what the kit can do for those interested! One tip is to write down when you started tumbling on a piece of tape as it’s easy to forget when you started, when it’s going for 3-7 days at a time. It’s normal for the Lortone to get super hot during this time. When you are done you do not want to dump the compound and water down the drain as it’s not good for pipes but it is safe to put out in your garden. You can also save and reuse again but I’m not sure how many times. I’m not exactly sure which stones are what (just being completely honest) but an important consideration when tumbling is using stones of the same relative hardness. Some of the harder stones in this grouping probably caused some of the softer to break, but stones breaking off is normal in general. This kit does get the stones smooth but did not produce a high gloss. We are still running the promotion to save 25% off of a Lortone Tumbler @seattlefindings using code METALSMITHSOCIETY and you can choose to buy with or without this polishing kit! #rocktumbling #rocktumblingbeforeandafter #rocktumblingfordays #metalsmithsociety
