This is very basic, but a game changer. Buy gallons of distilled water and basically use it for everything in your studio! There are minerals and metals in your tap water, if you know your water supply has a high level of minerals a.k.a “hard” water 🙋♀️- this tip is especially for you! When you create your pickle solution be sure to use distilled water, many people have iron in their water which can cause (depending on levels) a copper coating on your work! You can also use it for your baking soda neutralizing solution as well. If you use paste flux use distilled water when diluting! If your tumbler has a rubber barrel it is recommended to use distilled water as overtime the presence of the minerals in tap water will lead to more breakdown of the rubber. I also noticed while it might not negatively impact its functionality my Jettset turns brown when I heat in water from my studios sink. Is there another use for distilled water in the studio I haven’t thought of? If so be sure to let me know 😁 hope everyone has an amazing weekend! #jewelrycommunity #metalsmithsociety #jewelrytipoftheday #jewelrystudio
