Here is an awesome technique for accessing how a stone is sitting in its setting from @justinboehmecraftechcastings “If you raise and drop the metal in the flame, the soot deposits.
Check fastidiously for the fine witness marks.
You can re- deposit ad infinitum. Removal of soot can be tricky. I heat the metal to -say 150 C , cover in borax and take to low red hot. Let cool and immerse in pickle until visually clean, then ultrasonic. Repeat if not clean.” 🤯 this is such a great tip for those of us working with faceted stones. I was taught to place the stone and if it’s rocking look for shiny areas where it rubbed but it’s very hard to see. This technique is so visually clear! Thanks for sharing Justin! 🙏🏻 Check his page to see how insanely awesome that ring turned out! #metalsmithsociety #stonesetting #jewelrymaking #jewelrytipoftheday
