Here is a natural way to pickle your work from @simplecommebonjour - “We work green, so instead of using acids after soldering we use alum! Most people know alum as something that is used after shaving for stopping the blood, and it’s also used for deodorant. When you heat alum it's good for cleaning your pieces after soldering. You can heat it easily with an oil lamp and tea candle. When the water is hot (not boiling), gold and silver are 'cleaned' after 30-60 minutes. You can also heat in something electric!” The recipe for alum pickle is simply alum and distilled water. It can be found at supermarkets typically, I will also link some I found on Amazon in my TOOLS highlights 💃🏼 You can also use alum when you get a drill bit stuck (I learned that from multiple people on a previous post 🙏🏻) Thank you soo much for sharing this and the oil lamp is also a very cool hack (it’s ceramic) 🙌 love all the cool ideas coming from this community! If I haven’t said it recently, this page would be nothing without this incredible community of artists sharing their knowledge, wonderful methods, questions and comments. Thank you to all of you who show up and daily and make this such a friendly, awesome community ♥️ #metalsmithsociety #jewelrymakingtipoftheday #metalsmith #jewelrytipoftheday #communityovercompetition
