For this week’s #tooltalktuesday I have the absolute pleasure of showing off the appropriately named *“Perfect Bench Pin” created and sold by Mike & Mary of @flowmke2 🙏🏻😁 this bench pin is made of a abrasion resistant (nontoxic) plastic and fits perfectly into my GRS benchmate clamp (it also fits most standard clamps) It’s larger than my other bench pin which I like! The built in ledge is amazing (as seen in the first video) and allows me to stabilize tubing, rod and wires for filing. There is also a notch to saw the tubing which is a fantastic feature! The V cut out is awesome for sawing out all types of things but I also noticed it’s perfect for stabilizing my miter jig while filing (the edges of the jig rest on either side of the V and whatever is sticking out of the jig has plenty of space). I love the two dishes built into the top of the pin, in the weeks I’ve been working with this I’ve used it to hold cabochons, melee and I’ve also used it to help collect gold dust prior to transferring into a collection jar. I think for many of us... you get used to the bench pin you have been working with for years so a change can take some adjustment but I really love this pin. It’s got a bunch of functionality that you don’t get with a regular pin unless you take the time to modify it yourself. I might buy myself another GRS clamp and then I can quick change this pin with my old one for those instances when I’m missing my old one but I haven’t felt the need to change it back yet 💕 they also sent me a “Jewel Picker” which makes it easy to pick up stones while I’m checking my seats during stonesetting (also available in their shop 🙏🏻) 😍 Be sure to check out their Etsy shop for this tool and others, I will link in my stories! As always please share your questions, thoughts, experiences (if you also have one!) *I received this tool as a PR gift, all the information I share is my genuine opinion #metalsmithsociety #jewelrytools #jewelrymakingessentials
