  Here is a technique you can use if you have a cabochon that is rocking a bit (due to an uneven bottom ) in its setting from @quiettimejewelry - “When checking for fit in the setting my stone was rocking back and forth. Which, for me, usually means it will continue to rock once its set. So my solution was to solder an itty bitty piece of 26 gauge silver to the baseplate so the stone has a solid base to rest on.
