Here is a solid method of applying patina from @thebenchmarkcollection - “After matting the background of my plates evenly, I use a metal-free watercolor brush (a tip I picked up from the community) filled with Vigor to oxidize the recessed areas as accurately as possible. Since my plates are double-sides, I use a toothpick to be able to have access to both sides. After oxidation is applied, I allow the pieces to sit for 1-2min then rinse with water thoroughly, dry thoroughly, and then repeat the oxidation process once more. I find that I get a more even finish this way. The second image is a photo of the sort of ashy dark grey I’m left with. I then take a Miracle Gold rubber wheel and gently touch up areas that might have excess oxidation before carefully rubbing in Renaissance Wax, using a very soft toothbrush to make sure all areas are coated. After wiping off any excess wax, I touch up any spots that need a high polish. Voila! They don’t stay perfectly dark forever, but they stay pretty dark especially if they’re well taken care of :)” Patina application is one of the most frequently asked about topics in our community!!
