#affiliate For this week’s #tooltalktuesday I wanted to show off the 3M Radial Discs you can use on your bench lathe or polishing machine available from our friends at @ottofrei1930 If you are unfamiliar with Radial Discs they are an awesome polishing tool! They are flexible, get into nooks and crannies, provide a uniform polish and don’t require any additional polishing compounds so they don’t make a huge mess. I have been using the small ones with my flex shaft for over a decade and was excited to try them out on my bench lathe in a larger size. I got a kit of 2” wheels (Part # 116.560) and 3” (Part # 116.550) both kits include 80 Grit (Yellow), 120 Grit (White), 220 Grit (Red), 400 Grit (Blue) Pumice (Pink), 6 Micron (Peach), 1 Micron (Light Green). They also make a 6” version however I use the Foredom Bench Lathe and those wheels are not compatible with a tapered spindle! You also want to pay attention to which side of your bench lathe or polishing machine these will be mounted, the 3M Bristle Disc Tapered Spindle Mounts are black for right sided mounts and grey for left sided mounts! You should always have the discs on the mandrel so that the bristles curve opposite (or away) from the direction of rotation—bristles should not be bent backward during use. If you are a fan of these radial discs for your flex shaft you’ll love these larger wheels. They allow me to quickly and effectively polish larger items (like my plant stands over at @corkieboltonjewelry ). You can also buy these wheels individually too if you want to test one out or don’t find you need all the grits! Support of our sponsors helps support the page and with each purchase from our friends @ottofrei1930 with code MMSOF you save 5% and they also give back to the page, so huge thank you to them! Let me know if you have any questions and thanks for checking out this week’s tool talk! #3mradialdiscs #3mpolishingtools #polishingjewelry #benchlathe #foredombenchlathe
