For this week’s #tooltalktuesday I wanted to talk about my Fretz Chasing Hammer. I have the HMR-20M (available from our friends at @ottofrei1930 part # 137.191M ) This particular Chasing Hammer from Bill Fretz has a heavier and longer head. It is my go-to hammer for setting thicker bezels! I use it along with a variety of standard steel nails that I have shaped and polished to hammer my bezels. I also use it when I need to mark my work with other steel stamps. This hammer is perfect for reppoussé and chasing (the definition being: Repoussé or repoussage refer to a metalworking technique in which a malleable metal is shaped by hammering from the reverse side to create a design in low relief. Chasing, chased work, or embossing refer to a similar technique, in which the piece is hammered on the front side, sinking the metal.) It’s one of my goals this year to experiment with those techniques. I’d love to hear from you, if you have a Fretz chasing hammer and what you use it for. Comment below! We have a code good through the end of the month for 5% off all orders with our friends Otto Frei, and your purchase helps support the page. Use code MMSOF. #fretzhammer #fretztools #chasinghammer #thickbezels
