Tip for setting bezel corners on triangles, heart points, squares, rectanges... from @sarahweberpurves
“A lot of smiths are intimidated by sharp corners. The key is to have a properly shaped bezel, making sure to trim the bezel down the top of the stone to avoid any extra metal. A scribe works great for marking where to trim. And then start tamping the bezel wire down at the corners. This way, you avoid any weird gaps that tend to happen. These tips will make corners a cinch!”
Thank you SO much for sharing with us Sarah, and I think not making your bezel too tall is critical!! When considering bezel height, look at the point where your cabochon starts to curve and you’ll want to make your bezel slightly higher than that point by about 0.5 - 1mm of course each situation and stone is unique but on average that is great place to start! Same with a faceted stone you just want the wall of the bezel to be just above the top edge of the girdle.
Also shoutouts to the Benchmate Sarah is using to hold the piece, we just did the last post showing that tool as well!
