Hereโs a tip for when you break off a drill bit in your piece (like I did in the bottom left of my piece) *WITH AN UPDATE ๐my original post is below however due to the overwhelming amount of people suggesting Alum powder and water to dissolve the steel Iโm going to go ahead and put that out there too! ๐ thanks everyone! *Original post - Put your piece in a container and fill it with just enough pickle to cover the drill bit. The pickle will eat away at the steel (you can leave for a few hours) this will copper plate your piece (due to the interaction of steel and pickle, this is why you place the piece in a separate container) but that plating can be removed with a light polishing and itโs a small price to pay! Once you are done with the bowl of pickle neutralize it with baking soda and then keep some clumping cat litter in your studio and add some until it absorbs, dries and dispose of at your local hazardous waste collector. Thank you to those that commented on that additional measure so we can be good to our environment! ๐๐ป ๐ #metalsmithsociety #jewelrytipoftheday #jewelrycommunity #jeweler #benchjeweler
