I was tired of banging on my mandrel, holding it in one hand and using the other to get rings into shape. I tried putting my mandrel in my vise but unless you have a vise with cutouts it really doesn't hold well.

So I told the DBH my idea and he did it but our first attempt (last picture) didn't allow for the mandrel to stick out far enough so he grabbed a piece of firewood and screwed that to the front underside of my 'bench' top (old table 😉) and got the clearance I needed. It works perfectly! No more sore hands and I just put the mandrel in when I need it and pull it out when I don't!” This is such a wonderful idea Jamie and I appreciate you sharing it with us!!!
